Information on taxis in SpainOn this page youll find the basic taxi fares for 2008 for Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, and Valencia. Keep in mind there may be additional supplementary fees, but this should give you a basic idea of what to expect. All taxis should have a list of fares and supplements posted inside the taxi (usually on the windows in the back seat).
I always make a point of letting the taxi driver
see me reading the list of taxi fees in Spain. Why? Taxi drivers in Spain are,
unfortunately, not always the most honest people. Most of them are wonderful,
but some of them will try to take advantage of foreigners by either tacking on
extra fees or taking an extremely long route. When I first arrived at Madrid
Barajas Airport, I caught a taxi into the center of town. The hostel I had
reserved told me the fare should be about 15, and it was. But the driver then
told me I had to pay 7 per suitcase -- outrageous, especially since there is no
charge for suitcases in Madrid taxis! Other drivers have tried taking me in the
wrong direction to extend the ride. Just be careful. If you have made a
reservation at a hotel in Spain, see if they can tell you the approximate cost
for a taxi ride from the airport or from other points of interest in the city.
And just try to act like you know where youre going.
